BOOK CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT
Bards Alley Bookshop is proud to offer an array of book clubs that cater to a variety of tastes and demographics. The primary goal of our book clubs is to foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where community members, regardless of biological sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof), feel comfortable expressing their opinions and being their most authentic selves.
We expect all book club members and leaders to abide by this Code of Conduct in all community venues—both in person and online—as well as in all one-on-one communications, not limited to those pertaining to book club business.
Expected Behavior
Members of Bards Alley book clubs are expected to participate in an authentic and active way. In doing so, you contribute to the health and longevity, not just of your book club, but of your relationship to the larger Vienna community. Be mindful of your fellow book club members by exercising consideration and respect in your speech and actions; always attempt collaboration before conflict. Differences of opinion are to be expected, even welcomed, in a book club environment. However, disrespect, discrimination, and harassment will not be tolerated.
Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to, the following: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, demeaning, or needlessly aggressive speech or actions by any member of the book club, on or off Bards Alley premises.
Unacceptable behavior from book club members will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is to comply immediately. If a book club member engages in an unacceptable behavior, on or off Bards Alley premises, the book club leader, with the approval of Bards Alley management, may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from the club without warning.
Grievances
If you feel that a member of your book club has violated this Code of Conduct, notify your book club leader with a concise description of your grievance. Book club leaders are appointed by and representatives of Bards Alley Bookshop. They are to be treated with the same respect and deference that would be extended to a Bards Alley staff member.
If you feel that a book club leader has violated this Code of Conduct, contact Bards Alley’s Book Club Liaison.
